LLM council

What is an LLM council?

An LLM council is a setup where several large language models answer the same question independently, then their answers are compared and merged into one result. Agreement shows where the panel converges; disagreement shows what to verify. Satcove is a hosted version: six models, one verdict, an agreement score, no self-hosting.

How does an LLM council work?

Typically in three steps: every model answers on its own, the answers are compared (some setups add a peer-review round), and one final step synthesizes a single response. Isolation matters — models that never see each other's answers cannot anchor on the first one.

LLM council vs consensus vs mixture-of-agents: what is the difference?

A council, as popularised by Karpathy's llm-council experiment, has three steps: independent answers, an anonymous peer review where models rank each other, then a chairman that writes the final answer. Mixture-of-agents stacks layers where each model refines the previous layer's output. Consensus, which is what Satcove does, keeps the answers independent and focuses on the outcome: a synthesized verdict, an agreement score and the named divergences that may change a decision. Satcove does not run an anonymous cross-review round, so it is not the same protocol as a council.

Do I need to self-host a council?

No. Open-source council projects are good for tinkering, but you host them, manage your own API keys and maintain them yourself. Satcove runs the panel for you on iPhone and the web, so you type a question and get the verdict.

What are the limits of an LLM council?

Agreement is not proof: models trained on overlapping text can be wrong together, and more models means more cost and latency. Use a council to decide what to double-check, then verify consequential claims against current sources.

FAQ

What is an LLM council?

A group of AI models that answer the same question independently, followed by a comparison or synthesis step. The goal is to see where models agree, where they disagree, and to reduce reliance on a single model's answer.

Is an LLM council better than one model?

It gives a wider view than a single answer and makes outliers visible. It costs more time and compute, and agreement does not guarantee accuracy, so high-stakes claims still need sources.

Can I use an LLM council on my phone?

Yes. Satcove runs six models in parallel on iPhone, Android and the web and returns one synthesized verdict with an agreement score.

Is it free to try?

Yes. Satcove has a free plan with 3 consensus queries a week, no card required.
